A view of the U.S. 62 highway bridge that paraells the Youngs High Bridge across the Kentucky River. This bridge is a bit strange in itself as when you look closely at the picture you will notice that the bridge enters and exits in opposing curves. This is rumored to be the only highway bridge in the country that was designed to do this.
The Tyrone Power Station as viewed from the Anderson County side of Youngs High. This plant was served by the railroad line until 1979 when a runaway locomotive derailed on the plants spur line and destroyed several coal cars and caused the derailment of Southern Railway SW-1 #1002 that was chasing the runaway. This lead to the trucking in of coal to the plant.
Norfolk Southern took up the rails on the Anderson County side of the bridge years ago. Thus leaving Youngs High a bridge which leads to nowhere. Today a group called the Tyrone Bridge and Rail Co. is working towards the goal of turning the right-of-way into a
rail-trail and building a state park centered around the bridge. The tracks continue on the Woodford County side under the ownership of the BGRM but haven't seen a train in several years.
Youngs High Bridge as seen from the Tyrone Quarry on the Anderson County side. This is the only spot to get a decent picture of the bridge as it is inaccessable from the Woodford Co. side because of heavy vegetation and is inaccessable from the Anderson Co. side because of the trespassing resctrictions of the Wild Turkey Whiskey plant which the bridge leads directly to.
