Back to the River project

The Bluegrass Railroad Museum Inc. announces our "Back to the River" project funded in part by a Transportation Enhancement Grant

The grant will enable us to restore our track back to Young's High Bridge on the Kentucky river. This historic rail line will be restored and preserved for use by future generations. We will also be building side track to better serve our handicap visitors and restoring or acquiring additional antique passenger equipment.

Our grant requires the Bluegrass Railroad to provide a 20% match to the grant funds. This means that to spend $100 of grant money we need to provide $25 in matching funds, services, supplies, and/or in-kind services. Please consider donating to this important project. All donations of cash and supplies are fully tax deductable. All donations of in-kind labor are welcome. Work days and hours will be posted here.

Request for Bids

The Bluegrass Railroad Museum Inc, on behalf of the Woodford County Fiscal Court is requesting bids for 500 Relay quality wooden railroad ties. Bids must be received by 10 am Friday September 10, 2010. This purchase is part of our “Back to the River” historical restoration project.

The photo at left taken August 9, 2010 shows volunteers working to level ballast to support ties for the new side tracks. When complete the tracks will provide the capability of loading passengers directly off the platform giving better access to our excursion train for our handicapped visitors. It will also provide additional space for display of unique historically important pieces of railroad equipment.
